Sol Line
Reimagining transportation for a more connected Los Angeles
OVERVIEW
How might we rethink transportation within a growing city?
For the 2025 Disney Imaginations Competition, our team was challenged to design a new transportation system within a city.
We chose Los Angeles, a city known for its sprawling neighborhoods, heavy traffic, and reliance on personal vehicles. With the 2028 Olympics approaching, we saw an opportunity to imagine what a faster, more sustainable, and more connected LA could look like.
Our solution was Sol Line: a solar-powered, high-speed transportation network that combines the efficiency of magnetic transit with the flexibility of on-demand pods.

OUR CONCEPT
Meet Sol Line
Rather than creating another traditional rail system, we wanted Sol Line to feel like a new layer of the city.
The network radiates from four central stations into surrounding neighborhoods, with smaller substations providing local access. Magnetic technology allows solar-powered pods to travel quickly and efficiently between stations, while community spaces turn transit hubs into destinations of their own.

At the center of the experience is a simple idea:
What if getting somewhere wasn't just a commute, but part of the experience?
Central stations become mini cities: places to relax, learn, gather, and connect. Travelers can visit community gardens, attend events, or simply unwind before continuing their journey.

DESIGN PROCESS
Shaping the user experience
One of my favorite parts of the project was helping shape the user/guest experience story.
Instead of presenting Sol Line as a collection of technologies, we imagined what it would actually feel like to use it. At Sol Line's four central stations, travelers are welcomed by vibrant community spaces featuring gardens, educational spaces, and event venues.
The Sol Line app makes it easy to reserve pods for immediate or future travel, ensuring a stress-free journey. By combining metro efficiency with ridesharing flexibility, minus the traffic, Sol Line transforms long, stressful commutes into smooth, rapid rides. Travelers ride in sleek, solar-powered pods.

MY CONTRIBUTIONS
Building a visual language for Sol Line
Working alongside three students from different disciplines, my primary role was to translate our transportation concept into a cohesive visual experience that people could quickly understand and engage with.
Mascot Design
Transportation systems can feel complicated and impersonal. We wanted Sol Line to feel different. Ray, our sun-powered robot, became the friendly face of the system and provided a visual guide throughout the rider journey.

Logo Design
I created the Sol Line logo, using the sun and radiating lines as a visual metaphor for the transportation network itself.

Promotional Poster
The goal of this poster is to describe the feeling of Sol Line, not just explain how it works. I explored a solarpunk-inspired visual direction: imagining a future where technology and nature coexist rather than compete.

Pod Infographic
In collaboration with the mechanical engineer on our team, I helped develop the infographic explaining the technology behind our pods.

RESULTS
An unforgettable experience
Our team advanced to the semifinal round, placing in the top 16 teams in the 2025 Disney Imaginations Competition.
Beyond the competition, Sol Line gave me the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and explore how storytelling and visual design can make complex systems feel intuitive, exciting, and human.
I’m grateful to my teammates, Jessica Perez, Keilana Calder, and Siena Lopez, for bringing this vision to life with me!
